International Education Administration – Study Abroad Program Management

• Study Abroad Program Manager • December 2004 to June 2006 • Responsible for all aspects of study abroad administration on the UCD campus including coordination of faculty-led programs abroad, all student advising, website maintenance, creation of publications and promotional materials, grade and credit reporting, coordination and participation in marketing efforts around campus (for example organization of study abroad fair each semester), and coordination with all academic units and administrative departments around campus (financial aid, records, academic advising offices, etc.) Supervisor for two student workers.

• Director of International Programs • March 2001 to April 2003 • Administrative responsibility for 125 exchange partnerships throughout Europe, North and South America resulting in 500 departures, and 225 arrivals per year. Successful management of an important transition period where a year abroad became a graduation requirement for all Sup de Co Montpellier students, more than doubling the number of students participating (from 190 outgoing to 500 outgoing in 2002). Significant budgetary responsibility ($450,000 departmental annual budget). Participated in the instigation of the on-line interactive study abroad journal “I-Flash.” ESC Montpellier Erasmus/Socrates coordinator. Management of four full-time staff members, two student workers.
• International programs coordinator, outgoing student advisor. Main advisor for all students abroad and potential future outgoing students. Administrative preparation for the new mandatory year abroad. Preparation of outgoing student guides (undergraduate and graduate), pre-departure advising, administrative coordination of the internal selection procedures. Administrative responsibility for enrollment of all students in host universities around the world (100% participated in a bilateral exchange or fee-paying agreement, 75% in a dual-degree program at the Bachelor or Master’s level).

• Study abroad program manager • May 1997 to June 2001 • Housing and excursions coordinator, general advisor for academic year and spring semester program participants in university exchange program based at the University of Montpellier. Responsible for negotiating costs of housing with local landlords and providing cost efficient cultural discovery excursions throughout the Languedoc region. Conflict resolution as needed between program participants and with landlords. Presenter at annual week long orientation sessions addressing issues such as intercultural adaptation, culture shock, banking and other practical matters, making friends, and how to get involved in local associations and activities.
